Hotel Meghniwas
is a family owned and managed heritage style hotel in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. This north-western Indian state is the home of the Rajputs, a group of warrior clans who have controlled this part of India for 1000 years according to a code of chivalry and honour akin to that followed by medieval Europe's
knights. They have also endowed the state with a magical air of romance, speckled with desert forts, lush oases, and exotic cities that rise out of the landscape like shimmering backdrops to Tales of the Arabian Nights. No-one visits Rajasthan without taking home superb memories, a swag of folk art and a helluva lot
of grit in the eye.
About Meghniwas (The Hotel)
Meghniwas (The Home of the Clouds), was constructed in 1948 by Thakur Jaswant Singh and named after his father Megh Singh. It is managed today by Megh Singh's grandson Colonel Fateh Singh, his wife Indu, and their sons Udai and Ajai. The Singhs' are Rajputs, like the original inhabitants of the State. About The
Family Colonel Singh graduated from India's National Defence Academy in 1950 with the highest military decoration the Sword of Honor. During his distinguished 20-year tenure with the Army, he was a member of the United Nations delegation to Cyprus and Gaza. When Colonel Singh toured Europe in the 1960's he was
impressed by the charm, warmth, and hospitality of the pensions and guest- houses he stayed at. Since his retirement from the Army in 1980, he has sought to replicate this cozy intimacy in Meghniwas, his ancestral home. Colonel Singh's wife, Indu has a post graduate degree in Hotel Management. Indu is completely
incharge of operations at Meghniwas: she enjoys the opportunity this gives her to meet, and personally interact with her guests, as well as make friends with people all over the world. Indu has spent time in Europe and America on business and pleasure. Udai the elder of two sons has graduated from Stanford. He is
co-founder of AskMe Corporation and lives in the US. After graduating from the Cornell Hotel School, the younger son Ajai, has been involved in developing and managing the hotel.
